Lansium domesticum is a species of fruit-bearing tree belonging to the family Meliaceae.

[edit] Anatomy, morphology and habit

[edit] Habit

Lansium domesticum is a medium-sized, single-trunked tree that usually grows from ten to fifteen meters tall.[1]

The plant has pinnately compound leaves that grow to a length of around twenty to fifty centimeters long per leaf. Each fully-grown leaf has five to seven slightly-leathery, obovate leaflets that can reach a length of twenty centimeters each. A very prominent midrib bisects each dark green, glossy leaflet.[1]

[edit] Flowers

L. domesticum flowers are hermaphrodite, having both stamen and pistil structures in the same flower. The pale-yellow, fleshy flowers are found in inflorescences or around thirty, in most cases in a raceme usually around thirty centimeters long.[1]

[edit] Fruit

Fruits are ovoid, roundish orbs around five centimeters in diameter, usually found in clusters of two to thirty fruits. Each round fruit is covered by yellowish, thick, leathery skin. Underneath the skin, the fruit is divided into five or six slices of translucent, juicy flesh. The flesh is slightly acidic in taste, although ripe specimens are sweeter. Green seeds are present in around half of the segments, usually taking up a small portion of the segment although some seeds take up the entire segment's volume. In contrast with the sweet-sour flavor of the fruit's flesh, the seeds are extremely bitter. The sweet juicy flesh contains sucrose, fructose, and glucose.[1]

[edit] Distribution

Lansium duranum was originally native to the Malaysian peninsula and known locally as Langsat.

Agriculturally, the tree is grown throughout the entire Southeast asian region, ranging from Southern India to the Philippines for its fruit. In the Philippines, where it is locally referred to as the lanzones, the plant is grown mostly on the southern parts of the island of Luzon, especially in Paete, Laguna, due to the species' narrow range of conditions favorable to its survival. It is also found in abundance on Northern Mindanao particularly in places as Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, and Camiguin. The Camiguin variety is especially sweet and succulent.

In Indonesia, Langsat is very popular fruit in West Kalimantan (Pontianak, Indonesia) and South Sumatra (also called 'Duku').

Within mainland Asia, the tree is cultivated in Thailand (Thai: ลางสาด, langsat), Vietnam and India, as well as its native Malaysia. Outside the region, it has also been successfully transplanted and introduced to Hawaii and Surinam.[1]

[edit] Ecology and life history

It grows wild in Sumatra forests where a wide and longest river in Indonesia lay across the southern part of Sumatra. The river rises and floods the forest lands for a few months, when it subsides, the flood leaves plenty of fallen leaves and twigs enriching and moistening a large area of the forest bed, resulting in ideal conditions for the plant to grow naturally. Local people will come and harvest it as natural forest produce. They climb up the tree with ripe fruits (after observing it), holding with their hands on the smaller branches and shaking it. Mature fruits will fall easily down to the ground. They will then collect it and transport it on a small boat on a nearby river to the villages and sell

Infertility And Sperm Donation

Infertility And Sperm Donation

The act of supplying sperm for the purpose of impregnating a woman is called sperm donation. The male that does this is called a sperm donor and the facility here it is checked and stored is called a sperm bank.

Sperm donation may be given either anonymously or known, though laws may restrict the number of children each donor may father. BTW, I found a site about prostitutes in Spanish:putas Barcelona. When the sperm donor is referred to as a Known Donor it usually means that a woman or a couple has approached someone they know to donate sperm.

Most commonly though is the use of anonymous sperm donation which will be supplied via a sperm bank where the details of the donor are not divulged. While initially the sperm donor may wish to remain anonymous, this may not last as recent changes in the law in some countries means that a sperm donor or children conceived with his sperm may wish to contact one another.

The health of the sperm donor is paramount and tests for HIV, disabilities, sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and syphilis, drug abuse or any genetic conditions are carried out on the sperm donor. The sperm bank will carry out checks on the man’s background and family medical history plus his characteristics which go on record for future reference.

Once that is complete, the sperm will be subjected to further tests to check that sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and syphilis, for example, are not present but other details like his blood group and RH type will also be taken at this time. The reasons these tests are carried out are for the health of the child and to ensure that no genetic conditions or infections are passed on.

This is made possible by tests carried on the donated sperm at the sperm bank and to ensure the sperm will be viable, all details are carefully recorded before the donor can be registered with them. During the six month quarantine period, sperm donations cannot be used so tests are run to prove the sperm is healthy and can be used as soon as the quarantine is over.

Male infertility can mean that many infertility treatments currently available will not be possible if the man suffers with male factor infertility. Low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal morphology of sperm can make it very difficult to conceive using your partner’s sperm but sperm donation is increasingly becoming a viable option for many couples. Increasing numbers of women and couples trying for a child are finding the benefits of sperm donation to achieve their dream.

A virus can spell doom for your computer. See more computer pictures.

Strange as it may sound, the computer virus is something of an Information Age marvel. On one hand, viruses show us how vulnerable we are -- a properly engineered virus can have a devastating effect, disrupting productivity and doing billions of dollars in damages. On the other hand, they show us how sophisticated and interconnected human beings have become.

For example, experts estimate that the Mydoom worm infected approximately a quarter-million computers in a single day in January 2004. Back in March 1999, the Melissa virus was so powerful that it forced Microsoft and a number of other very large companies to completely turn off their e-mail systems until the virus could be contained. The ILOVEYOU virus in 2000 had a similarly devastating effect. In January 2007, a worm called Storm appeared -- by October, experts believed up to 50 million computers were infected. That's pretty impressive when you consider that many viruses are incredibly simple.

When you listen to the news, you hear about many different forms of electronic infection. The most common are:
  • Viruses - A virus is a small piece of software that piggybacks on real programs. For example, a virus might attach itself to a program such as a spreadsheet program. Each time the spreadsheet program runs, the virus runs, too, and it has the chance to reproduce (by attaching to other programs) or wreak havoc.
  • E-mail viruses - An e-mail virus travels as an attachment to e-mail messages, and usually replicates itself by automatically mailing itself to dozens of people in the victim's e-mail address book. Some e-mail viruses don't even require a double-click -- they launch when you view the infected message in the preview pane of your e-mail software [source: Johnson].
  • Trojan horses - A Trojan horse is simply a computer program. The program claims to do one thing (it may claim to be a game) but instead does damage when you run it (it may erase your hard disk). Trojan horses have no way to replicate automatically.
  • Worms - A worm is a small piece of software that uses computer networks and security holes to replicate itself. A copy of the worm scans the network for another machine that has a specific security hole. It copies itself to the new machine using the security hole, and then starts replicating from there, as well.

In this article, we will discuss viruses -- both "traditional" viruses and e-mail viruses -- so that you can learn how they work and understand how to protect yourself.

Trademark status

Trademark status

Most dictionary definitions[6] and common usages of the term are generic and not limited to the characters of any particular company or companies.

Nevertheless, variations on the term "Super Hero" are jointly claimed by DC Comics and Marvel Comics as trademarks. Registrations of "Super Hero" marks have been maintained by DC and Marvel since the 1960s.[7] (U.S. Trademark Serial Nos. 72243225 and 73222079, among others).

Joint trademarks shared by competitors are rare in the United States.[8] They are supported by a non-precedential 2003 Trademark Trial and Appeal Board decision upholding the "Swiss Army" knife trademark. Like the "Super Hero" marks, the "Swiss Army" mark was jointly registered by competitors. It was upheld on the basis that the registrants jointly "represent a single source" of the knives, due to their long-standing cooperation for quality control.[9]

Critics in the legal community dispute whether the "Super Hero" marks meet the legal standard for trademark protection in the United States-distinctive designation of a single source of a product or service. Controversy exists over each element of that standard: whether "Super Hero" is distinctive rather than generic, whether "Super Hero" designates a source of products or services, and whether DC and Marvel jointly represent a single source.[10] Some critics further characterize the marks as a misuse of trademark law to chill competition.[11]

America's Best Comics, originally an imprint of Wildstorm, used the term science hero, coined by Alan Moore.

The birds of paradise are members of the family of the order Passeriformes Paradise. They are found in eastern Indonesia, the islands of Torres Strait, Papua New Guinea, and Australia's east. This family of birds known as the male plumage of many kinds, especially the very long hair and a growing complex of the beak, wings or head. Sizes ranging from birds of paradise Bird of Paradise King at 50 grams and 15 cm to Paradise Black Sicklebill at 110 cm and Manukod crested Bird of rolling at 430 grams.

Birds of paradise most notably the members of the genus Paradisaea, including the type species, large yellow paradise, Paradisaea apoda. These types are described from specimens brought to Europe from trading expeditions. These specimens were prepared by native traders by removing the wings and legs to be used as decoration. It is not known by the explorers and led to the belief that these birds never landed but remain in the air because of the feathers. This is the origin of a bird of paradise ( 'bird paradise' by the British) and the name of apoda - which means 'legless'.

Many species have a complex mating ritual, mating system Paradisaea types are male birds gather to compete to show its beauty in the female bird to mate. While other types such as the types Cicinnurus and Carola had a regular wedding dance. Male birds in sexually dimorphic species are polygamous. Many birds are described as a hybrid of new species, and some species kevalidannya doubt.

The number of eggs a little less certain. In large type, perhaps almost always one egg. Small types can produce as many as 2-3 eggs (Mackay 1990).
